AMERICAN CARNAGE #1
Written by Bryan Edward Hill
Art by Leandro Fernandez (Pencils) & Dean White (Colors)
Published by DC Comics – $3.99

A new, thrilling crime saga from the writer of WILDSTORM: MICHAEL CRAY and the artist of The Old Guard! Disgraced FBI agent Richard Wright is offered a chance for redemption when his old mentor sends him undercover to infiltrate a white supremacist group believed to be responsible for the death of a fellow agent.

Why It’s Hot: As Bryan Edward Hill’s profile has continued to rise in recent months the buzz for this new series has grown along with it. Vertigo has always done crime comics well, and that looks to continue that long running trend. This comic isn’t going to pull any punches, and has potential to be one of the more important mainstream comics of the year. Is this another Vertigo classic in the making? Find out this week!

Why It’s Hot: Archie reaches 700 issues with a brand new direction! No matter the decade Archie has found a way to stay relevant in the minds of pop culture aficionados around the world. With multiple television series, and an entire line of contemporary comics there’s been no better time to be a fan of those kids from Riverdale. What better way to celebrate than with this landmark issue, and an episode of Riverdale.

EXORSISTERS #2
Written by Ian Boothby
Art by Gisele Lagace
Published by Image Comics – $3.99

After a demonic domestic dispute, Cate and Kate Harrow are visited by their estranged mother, leading to revelations about how the sisters got dragged into the dark world of deals and devils.

Why It’s Hot: The first issue of this series was one of the biggest comic book surprises of 2018. If you like solid female leads, a quirky sense of humor, and plenty of twists and turns make sure to pick up both issues of Exorsisters when you make your way to the shop this week. You can thank me for the recommendation later.

GO-BOTS #1
Written by Tom Scioli
Art by Tom Scioli
Published by IDW Publishing- $3.99

Go-Bots have changed our way of life. Leader-1 is a self-aware fighter jet on a hostage rescue mission with his partner, Commander Nick Burns. Scooter is the personal transport and best friend to undergrad A.J. Foster. Turbo is Matt Hunter’s transforming race car in the hottest sport in America, Go-Bot Racing. Cy-Kill is the champion of the illegal, underground Go-Bot Fighting League. A sophisticated sci-fi epic from the visionary creator that brought you Transformers vs. G.I. JOE. They say they’re here to help us, but are they here to replace us?

From the creative mind that brought you IDW’s Transformers vs. G.I. JOE!
Visionary creator Tom Scioli unleashes his imagination on the bizarre, absurd, and wonderful world of Go-Bots!

Why It’s Hot: Tom Scioli revamping the Go-Bots for the 21st century is enough of a reason for readers to get excited for the Go-Bots franchise for what could possibly be the first time. To be honest though it doesn’t matter what Tom Scioli is working on because when you see his name on a comic it instantly becomes a must read. The man is an artistic genius, and we should be very excited to see what he does with these characters.

MARVEL KNIGHTS 20th #2
Written by Matthew Rosenberg & Donny Cates
Art by Niko Henrichon
Published by Marvel Comics – $3.99

In celebration of the legendary imprint founded by Marvel’s CCO Joe Quesada, a new crop of talent stands poised to tell a groundbreaking story across the Marvel Universe!
In the cemetery, the blind man does not know who he is, or why he has come to this particular grave at this moment.

He doesn’t know the burly police officer with the wild story who has approached him.
Or the strangely intense man who sits in the rear seat of the patrol car, his eyes flashing green.
But all of that is about to change.

Because Matt Murdock is beginning to remember…
In a colorless world without heroes, the spark of light…must come from the dark…

Why It’s Hot: The start of Marvel’s 20th anniversary of the Marvel Knights imprint started with a big debut issue that setup a whole bunch of wild threads and mysteries that will continue to be pulled at in these subsequent issues. The cool part is that “showrunner” Donny Cates is bringing in some friends to play in this sandbox. First up is budding superstar Matthew Rosenberg, and quite possibly the most underrated artist in comics Niko Henrichon. Big name creators, the characters that made the imprint popular, and a wild story makes this series the perfect way to celebrate Marvel Knights.

WEB OF VENOM: CARNAGE BORN #1
Written by Donny Cates
Art by Danilo Beyruth
Published by Marvel Comics – $4.99

• Join DONNY CATES as he continues to snake his tendrils through the VENOM mythos – this time visiting the sickening sociopath called CARNAGE!

• A cruel cannibal obsessed with death and murder, few mourned Cletus Kasady after he seemingly died in VENOMIZED.

• But now a cult devoted to the madman has gathered, hoping to resurrect their fallen idol and return his madness to the Marvel Universe…

Why It’s Hot: There’s this book called Venom that is has captured the attention of comic book fans everywhere. I even saw one guy (who totally has nothing to do with the comic) say that it is better than Watchmen. That’s some high praise right there. In all seriousness though, what writer Donny Cates and artist Ryan Stegman have done in reinventing the Venom mythology has been nothing short of a triumph. It only makes sense that Cates expand that triumph beyond just the one book. He did that with the “Ve’Nam” story, and now he gets to tackle the only symbiote that has ever challenged Venom in popularity. Donny Cates is writing Carnage, and fans of his work should be looking forward to it.
