BATGIRL #14
Written by Hope Larson
Art by Chris Wildgoose
Published by DC Comics – $3.99

“SUMMER OF LIES” part one! Batgirl and Nightwing’s feelings for each other have always run deep…but is their bond built on more than Bat Family loyalty and a long-ago childhood crush? When an old villain comes back into Babs’ life, she and Dick will have to reopen painful wounds and remember a time they’d hoped would remain forgotten. This is an event no Batgirl or Nightwing fan will want to miss!

Why It’s Hot: Barbara Gordon and Dick Grayson together again, as one of comic’s most beloved pairings reunite to tackle a threat from their past. Fans of both characters seem to love when the two are brought back together. It’s now Hope Larson, Chris Wildgoose, and the rest of the Batgirl creative team’s turn to add the next chapter to this classic relationship.

CATALYST PRIME: INCIDENTALS #1
Written by Joe Casey & Ramon Govea
Art by Larry Stroman
Published by Lion Forge Comics – $3.99

One Year after The Event that transformed a small portion of the world’s population into superhumans, billionaire Bo Vincent Chen has gathered his team of enhanced operatives for secret missions. Their latest task: saving the life of the extraordinary teenager called Seven.  The world’s first mysterious superteam of the Catalyst Prime Universe is revealed in this new series, but what secrets are they all hiding?

Why It’s Hot: The Catalyst Prime line of comics from Lion’s Forge has been one of the most successful creative launches in recent memory. The combination of great creative teams, and fresh, diverse characters has allowed the comics to get off to a blistering start. Now it’s time for this new comic book universe’s first team book! Featuring the work of industry vets like the great Joe Casey, and Larry Stroman of X-Factor fame, the burgeoning publisher is putting their best foot forward with this series.

GENERATIONS: UNWORTHY THOR & THOR #1
Written by Jason Aaron
Art by Mahmud Asrar
Published by Marvel Comics – $4.99

HER HAMMER, HIS AX: A WORTHY APOCALYPSE.
•  When a battle goes south, Thor finds herself in ancient Egypt – facing a young Odinson!
•  A misguided party of Vikings has bitten off way more than they can spear. But when the prince of Asgard answers their cries for help, he ends up in a fight no axe alone can win! And Apocalypse is not one for mercy.
•  Can a not-yet-worthy god and a time-lost hero take on one of the world’s most powerful mutants at the height of his empire? And what does their encounter mean for the future of two Thors?

Why It’s Hot: Generations has done an amazing job of distilling the core concepts of each set of characters down into a one-shot. At the same time the creative teams have shown why readers love (or should love) the legacy characters that have taken up the mantle of some of the biggest names that Marvel has to offer.  Last week’s Wolverine focused issue was phenomenal, and next up is Thor. Jason Aaron is one of the best writer’s ever to write Thor, and the brain behind Jane Foster’s current run as star of The Mighty Thor. There’s a great chance that the writer, and the talented Mahmud Asrar, will continue the Generations winning streak.

HI-FI FIGHT CLUB #1
Written by Carly Usdin
Art by Nina Vakueva
Published by BOOM! Studios – $3.99

Film and TV director Carly Usdin (Suicide Kale, RuPaul’s Drag Race) teams up with breakout artist Nina Vakueva for a new series that’s music to our ears!
New Jersey, 1998. Chris has just started the teen dream job: working at Vinyl Mayhem, the local record store. She’s prepared to deal with anything-misogynistic metalheads, grunge wannabes, even a crush on her wicked cute co-worker, Maggie.
But when Rory Gory, the staff’s favorite singer, mysteriously vanishes the night before her band’s show in town, Chris finds out her co-workers are doing more than just sorting vinyl…her local indie record store is also a front for a teen girl vigilante fight club

Why It’s Hot: The BOOM! Box line of all ages comics has been home to not only some of the best comics that BOOM! Studios has to offer, but some of the most fun, and unique new titles in all of comics over the past few years. Hi-Fi Fight Club continues that trend. Usdin and Vakueva are newer names to comic book fans, but don’t let that dissuade you from picking up this comic. The concept is fun, the writing is sharp, and the art fits perfectly with the story. The end result is a solid comic that readers of all ages can enjoy. Don’t sleep on this series!

NIGHTWING: THE NEW ORDER #1
Written by Kyle Higgins
Art by Trevor McCarthy
Published by DC Comics – $3.99

NIGHTWING: THE NEW ORDER is the story of a future world without “weapons”-where superpowers have been eliminated and outlawed. The man responsible? None other than Dick Grayson, a.k.a. Nightwing, now leader of a government task force called the Crusaders who are charged with hunting the remaining Supers. But when events transpire which turn the Crusaders’ aim toward Grayson’s own family, the former Boy Wonder must turn against the very system he helped create, with help from the very people he’s been hunting for years-the last metahumans of the DC Universe. Don’t miss this bold new vision from the team behind the New York Times bestseller BATMAN: GATES OF GOTHAM!

Why It’s Hot: Kyle Higgins returns to Nightwing and is joined by his Gates Of Gotham artist Trevor McCarthy. That alone should get bat fans excited, but add in what is essentially a bold new Elseworlds tale in everything but name, and the excitement level should be through the roof. This bold new look at a possible DC future appears as if it’s going to let this creative run wild. I know I can’t wait to see what this comic has in store for us readers.
