Published by Dark Horse Comics — $2.99

This is Star Wars as you remember it . . . and as you have never seen it before! We’re taking you back to those heady, adventure-filled days following the destruction of the Death Star-when the Empire ruled, the Rebels were on the run, and the galaxy was a dangerous place where anything might happen!

We’re not done yet! Dark Horse’s most anticipated 2013 launch will include free digital download coupons in the first three issues! That’s right: customers who purchase print copies of Dark Horse’s upcoming series Star Wars, written by Brian Wood, will receive a coupon to download the digital version for FREE!

Why It’s Hot: There have been a kajillion-billion Star Wars comic book series over the years, so what makes this one different? For one, it’s set immediately after the events of Episode IV, returning attention to a period of time its eldest fans hold most dear. The Clone Wars were cool, but nothing says “classic” like Luke, Leia and Han facing off against Darth Vader. And not only that, with the clock seemingly ticking on Dark Horse’s license, this could be one of the very last times we get to see what this publisher — who has diligently and brilliantly preserved the brand for years — gets to do with the story. Don’t use that as an excuse not to buy. Honestly, it should make you run to the shop!

Published by Marvel Comics — $3.99

THEN!…Peter Parker spent a lifetime living up to the responsibilities his powers foisted upon him but his Amazing story finally ended dramatically in the historic Spider-Man #700. NOW!…The new Amazing Spider-Man has arrived and he is better in every single way. Smarter, stronger…Superior.

Why It’s Hot: For the few that have been living in a cave, I guess I need to spell it out. Peter Parker gone. Otto Octavius suited up. Controversy. Great power. Great responsibility? Buy it.

The alien war criminal Steppenwolf returns! It’s been five years since he lead the forces of Apokolips against Earth – learn what he’s been up to since then! Plus: What is the dark secret behind the last Amazon of Earth 2?

Why It’s Hot: Fans have been eagerly awaiting the arrival of James Robinson’s new female hero for months and the time is finally here. We are at last meeting Fury! Is she Wonder Woman’s daughter? Is she Donna Troy? Is she a minion of Darkseid? All these questions have been spinning in our heads and now’s the time to find out! The world of Earth 2 is about to get even more interesting. This is probably the book I am most excited for this week! Robinson promised us a more diverse Society when he took over the book, and he’s delivered at every turn. Don’t read spoilers. Published by Image Comics — $3.50

“PARIS” Part Three

Time is against the Lost Boys and they only have one shot to save Felix before he’s shipped to Germany. Only one problem: how do you stop a speeding train?

“One of the most consistent books right now, PETER PANZERFAUST continues to amaze.” – Comicosity

Why It’s Hot: One of the more fascinating interpretations of a classic tale, Peter Panzerfaust is that perfect blend of new character, intrigue and homage that keeps readers coming back for more every month. Part of Image Comics’ amazing spread of brilliant creator-owned comics in 2012, this book is a big favorite around these parts and gets Comicosity’s highest recommendation! And if all that isn’t enough, issue #8 introduces the legend known as HOOK! Can’t miss!

Gus’s journey comes to an end and the fate of the hybrids is revealed in the final issue of the acclaimed Vertigo series! FINAL ISSUE

Why It’s Hot: Jeff Lemire has completed a masterpiece with this last, oversized issue of Sweet Tooth. Longtime fans should not hesitate to regale in the beauty that is this final note. The uninitiated (or those loving Lemire’s work on such books as Justice League Dark and Animal Man) should take this as an opportunity to buy up all the collections or digital copies on Comixology. Probably pick up Star Wars, but i’m debating whether to buy Spidey or not. Hate the concept but i’m kinda being persuaded to get it and see what happens.
