Welcome to Comicosity’s Hot Five. Hot Five is a short list of the top books we think you’ll want to be checking out. Be they new title launches, key issues or just continuing stories from some of the industry’s most acclaimed books, this list is your guaranteed gold in the comic market.

4 KIDS WALK INTO A BANK #5
Written by Matthew Rosenberg
Art by Tyler Boss
Published by Black Mask Comics – $3.99

The bank!

Why It’s Hot: The end is here! Black Mask Studio’s phenomenal series from Tyler Boss and Matthew Rosenberg will undoubtedly find itself on many “Best Of” lists this December. At only five issues there are few excuses why you shouldn’t read this series. As Rosenberg continues his Big 2 ascent you will look back at this comic as one of the defining projects of his career.

DASTARDLY AND MUTTLEY #1
Written by Garth Ennis
Art by Mauricet
Published by DC Comics – $3.99

It’s a red-letter day for the good folk of Unliklistan as they start to power up their first atomic reactor. But after pushing the wrong button, the ultra-rare radioactive element, unstabilium, has been released into the atmosphere! Now it’s up to pilot Lt. Col. Richard “Dick” Atcherly and his navigator Captain Dudley “Mutt” Muller to save the day. Will they safely complete their mission? Or are things about to get a little…wacky?

Why It’s Hot: Garth Ennis bringing his expertise in war comics to a Hanna Barbera property is something I never expected to see. Well it’s happening, and it’s good. Don’t let your thoughts about Wacky Raceland,  the other take that DC had on the classic Wacky Races cartoon, have an impact on this series. Ennis and Maurciet’s Dastardly and Muttley origin story is a completely different beast.

KINGSMAN: RED DIAMOND #1
Written by Rob Williams
Art by Simon Fraser
Published by Image Comics -$3.99

Kingsman: The Golden Circle (starring Channing Tatum and Colin Firth)is in cinemas in September, and we’re launching the sequel to the hit comic book series by MARK MILLAR and DAVE GIBBONS with KINGSMAN: THE RED DIAMOND. Working-class super-spy Eggsy follows in his mentor’s footsteps but is still rough around the edges for a Kingsman agent. Rejected by his high school crush and hot on the heels of a rescue mission to save Prince Phillip, he embarks on an international terror plot in a story that starts where James Bond draws the line. ROB WILLIAMS (Suicide Squad, Action Comics) and SIMON FRASER take the helm for this stunning six-issue miniseries.

Why It’s Hot: As Kingsman: The Golden Circle gets ready to hit theaters around the world, the comic that inspired it all is back for a new sequel! Millarworld is expanding, as new creators are being brought on board. The original series creative team of Mark Millar and Dave Gibbons pass the baton on to Rob Williams and Simon Fraser. It’s a new, bold, exciting era for Millarworld and in many ways it begins here.

VENOMVERSE #1
Written by Cullen Bunn
Art by Iban Coelli
Published by Marvel Comics – $4.99

THE VENOM EPIC OF THE FALL STARTS HERE!
During a routine battle with the villainous Jack O’Lantern, Venom finds himself transported to a far-off world and learns a terrible truth – a deadly new species called the Poisons has emerged from the vastness of space, and to make matters worse, they’re hunting Venoms! Trapped on the planet’s surface with a ragtag band of Venomized heroes, Eddie has no choice but to mount a counteroffensive and hope to find a way home!

Why It’s Hot: It’s all of the Venom you can possibly ask for! One of Marvel’s most popular characters of the past thirty years gets a spin-off of the highly popular Spider-Verse event. Spearheaded by Cullen Bunn, this series is looking to be a treat for Spidey fans. For everyone else, the prequel series, Edge Of Venomverse, showed that this concept has potential to be full of action and a ton of fun. While it may not be for everyone, don’t be shocked if this ends up being one of the most surprising comics of the Fall.
