It’s an all-new Gotham, but Batman still needs the help of the Midnight Shift. A typical assignment comes through.

While most of Gotham’s vigilante’s deal with the known criminals and dangerous elements, this special unit of the GCPD confronts all the things that go bump in the night, and no one wants to find out what is truly lurking.

This 8 page story hints at some of the fallout of the last arc of Gotham by Midnight.  However it wastes no time in jumping straight into an undead invasion and the horrific trappings that has to be dealt with. Part noir style story-telling and full blown horror movie feeling; this short story gives you plenty of goose-bumps, a quick introduction to the each team member and a stellar final image.

Juan Ferreyra’s art has a new depth and life to it like this series has never seen before. It still evokes a sense of gore, while glowing with supernatural energy. The panel layout is very straight forward. However, it is unclear if this will be the norm for the series in June, or if this was due to the short 8 page format of this story. Ferreyra’s take on the new Batman armor is fun as well and helps give the feeling about how this version can work in Gotham.

This is flat out a niche book for the horror audience, and will not be a must read for the superhero only crowd.

The Verdict: PULL LIST (for the horror crowd)
