This is the funniest damn duck in the funniest book in comics.

Chip Zdarsky is hilarious – this is fact and cannot be questioned. He brings this hilarity to Howard The Duck in all the best ways and issue #3 had me laughing until I was damn near crying. He takes pieces of the Marvel Universe that I never expected to funny and makes them hysterical while still somehow not tarnishing the characters or dragging them through the mud. The dialogue in this comic is brilliant, and despite many a gag, there’s a good story in here. Zdarsky finds a great balance of moving the story forward with humour and not just languishing in jokes. Howard is a lovable schmuck of a duck and I will freely admit I’ve never been much of a fan – but this series is totally winning me over. This third issue is all the right kinds of zany and I can’t remember the last time I laughed this hard at a comic. Zdarsky is a mad genius and Marvel has created the perfect pairing by having him cook up the adventures of Howard.

Joe Quinones is the perfect artist for this series as he gives these visuals a ton of heart. He can visually nail a gag and without his awesome artwork, this issue wouldn’t soar the way it does. Quinones’ work in this issue is fantastic, and I’m finding whenever I see his name on a comic, I’m very happy with the artwork within. Howard is expressive and lovable, and the side characters are oozing personality. Quinones is a strong storyteller and his artwork is top notch in this issue.

Howard The Duck #3 is a bloody riot. Zdarsky and Quinones are on fire and they are a creative team to be reckoned with. This is the funniest comic I’ve read in forever and this series can’t be missed. You’ve never seen seniors like this. Howard is amazing. Zdarsky + Quinones = Hilarity. You can’t argue with math.

The Verdict: 10/10
