So. Much. Fire.
Brian Michael Bendis and David Marquez blow the roof off the joint in issue #4 of Miles Morales: The Ultimate Spider-Man. Bendis has been going for broke since the beginning of this series, bringing the insanely powerful Norman Osborn into the picture in the first issue, and now, it’s time for explosions.
Issue #3 ended with Miles staring down Norman where Peter died, leading to an emotional situation for many characters in this Ultimate Spider-verse. Issue #4 takes that situation and throws gas on the fire, with a major reveal that shocks many characters to their core. This issue has a ton of characters going through some pretty wild emotions and action….so much action.
Miles and Norman throw down in epic fashion and Bendis does a great job of balancing the wild action with the intense character moments. This series continues to featuring Bendis’ best writing in years…he’s simply unstoppable where Miles is concerned.
I mentioned a ton of emotion and action…and David Marquez slays both. He’s a Marvel Young Gun for a reason, as he’s one of the best in their stable, and it shows. The action sequences featuring Norman and Miles are intense to say the least, raw power pouring out of Norman and uncertainty in the face of extreme danger on the masked face of Miles at all time.
The emotion of Kate Bishop and the rest of the side characters of the issue are sold extremely well, and Marquez seems to be unstoppable. His work in this issue is simply fantastic, and I can’t wait to see more.
Miles Morales: The Ultimate Spider-Man #4 is an amazing issue featuring fantastic writing and exceptional art, and must be read by everyone. Everyone. I’m not kidding – this book is that damn good.
The Verdict: 10/10
