Thursday means it’s time for the tweetin’, and checking in with a comic book reader with a penchant for 140 characters! This week we talk to Fabian Rangel Jr. (@FabianRangelJr), writer of Doc Unknown, Los Muertos, Extinct, Fall, Engines of Doom & Revenge Rooster!
#1 What is the first comic you remember reading?
It was an issue of Thor from 1990. It caught my eye at a convenience store. I read it so many times the cover came off. I still have it!
#2 You can only pick two: all time favorite comic book characters?
Superman since he started it all, and I have a Superman tattoo. Don’t judge, it was my first. Hellboy is my current favorite, though.
#3 What is your favorite series arc, limited or mini-series of all time?
That is such a hard question! I’ll cheat and say Planetary is tied with Hellboy: Conqueror Worm. Does Planetary even count?
#4 How do you read your comics? Print, digital, trades?
All three! Mostly single issues, though. I go every Wednesday, just can’t wait. Trades for my favorite series’. Digital rarely.
#5 What do you consider to be the most “obscure” title you read?
Does my own series count? (Doc Unknown) Haha I keed I keed. Um… not sure. Liberator from Black Mask Studios, probably.
#6 You get to pick three: Favorite writers (current or of all time)?
Alan Moore, Brian K. Vaughan, and John Arcudi. Warren Ellis should be on that list for Planetary, but I think those 3 cover all bases.
#7 What is your favorite comic collector’s item?
Original pages! Oh, man. I love them. I have an addiction. But lately I’ve been moving to commissions for financial reasons haha
#8 As a reader do you tend to stick to a specific publisher, follow creative teams or follow characters?
I follow creators for sure. I do mostly read Image and Dark Horse because they are creator-owned. I’m all about original stories.
#9 You get to pick three (again): Favorite artists?
Mike Mignola (is my god), James Harren is insane, his stuff explodes off the page, and Tyler Crook, I just think he does beautiful work.
#10 What was the last comic you read before answering these questions?
I started the Masks and Mobsters hardcover last night. Last one I finished was The Creep, and last single issue I read was Hawkeye #12.
