#TenTweetsThursday with @nathanfairbairn

Twitter has become a little spooky lately, so this week we welcome Wraith N. Scarebaron (@nathanfairbairn) to the hot seat. Nathan is the colourist on many titles you’ve read like Batman Incorporated, Multiversity, and Scott Pilgrim. You can check out his work at nathanfairbairn.com.

#1 What is the first comic you remember reading?

My first comics were a cache of my uncle’s old books I found. All Marvel. Avengers #199 was the best. First comic I gave to my own son.

#2 You can only pick two: all time favorite comic book characters?

I’m not really a reader who follows characters, but I’ll say Batman and Spider-man. Great origin stories make for great characters.

#3 What is your favorite series arc, limited or mini-series of all time?

I think the correct answer is Watchmen, but I’m gonna go with Devil’s Choices, A Grendel Tales mini that was beautiful in every aspect.

#4 How do you read your comics? Print, digital, trades?

I read everything in trades these days. Can’t even remember the last floppy I bought. I’ll check stuff out in digital format sometimes.

#5 What do you consider to be the most “obscure” title you read?

Hm. At the moment I’m working on building a collection of Hermann’s “The Towers of Bois-Maury” books. Beautiful stuff, but hard to find.

#6 You get to pick three: Favorite writers (current or of all time)?

Assuming you mean comics writers, I’ll say Moore, Ellis and Ennis. It’s a strong field, but those three have separated themselves to me.

#7 What is your favorite comic collector’s item?

I’ve got Edvin Biukovic’s original art and Matt Hollingsworth’s original painted colors from page 1of Devil’s Choices #1. Just gorgeous.

#8 As a reader do you tend to stick to a specific publisher, follow creative teams or follow characters?

I was a true Marvel zombie growing up, but now I just buy anything that has great writing and art. (Not either/or. It’s gotta have both)

#9 You get to pick three (again): Favorite artists?

Alex Toth, Goran Parlov and David Mazzuchelli (more for his early work, though — I didn’t love Asterios Polyp.)

#10 What was the last comic you read before answering these questions?

Green Manor vol. 2, by Bodart and Vehlmann. Helluva book. Simply outstanding cartooning.
