THE HONOR ROLL: February 04, 2015 Releases

Some people got snow this week. Some people got rain. We got comics. We got great spoiler filled picks of the wonderful books that came out this week. Let’s get to it!

IMPERIUM #1– Ken Godberson III

One of the many amazing aspects about this first-issue is that is made you quite clear on who the main character is, despite the fact that he has a pretty minimal physical presence on the pages. I’ve said before, Toyo Harada is one of the most intriguing characters in comics and I am so pumped for his new venture in this darker Valiant Universe.

01

About MeWhen he is not working at a library or on his Master’s Degree, Ken Godberson III is usually writing comics, prose and screenplays. He tends to be an expert on absolutely nothing except on why Impulse is the greatest superhero ever. He can be found on Twitter @kengodbersoniii or on Tumblr at http://kengodbersoniii.tumblr.com/.

STAR WARS #2 – Corey Fryia

Jason Aaron and John Cassady keep the nostalgia rolling in the second issue of Marvel’s new Star Wars series. I am already head over heels in love with what they’ve done. This panel where Vader displayed his utter badassery stole the show for me.

02

About Me: Corey Fryia is an independent comic book creator. He loves creator-owned comics and has a very manly beard. In his home town he is known as the “Sex Panther”. You can follow him (and his manly beard) on Twitter @coreyfryia

WYTCHES #4 – Tommy Zimmer

Ridiculous. What’s a grown ass man doing being spooked by a comic book. Wytches No. 4 is what it is. By Scott Snyder, Jock, and Matt Hollingsworth. It’s just a comic book. It’s not real. Think I’ll reread Teen Dog now.

NAMELESS #1 – Pete Buser

The world has been waiting on pins and needles to find out what Grant Morrison and Chris Burnham would bestow upon it after their magnificent run on Batman.  Here it is.  A comic book adaptation of Michael Bay’s “Armageddon”.

About Me: Pete Buser is an enigma wrapped in a variant cover. Follow his mystery @petebuser

STAR WARS #2 – Scott Keys

Aaron & Cassaday have truly captured the look & feel of the original Star Wars Trilogy and continue to impress with Star Wars #2! This is my favorite new ongoing right now!

About Me: Scott Keys is a father, Butler University grad, pharmacist, and full-time comic nerd. DETECTIVE COMICS #39 – Kulbir Mann

From moment you turn the cover, you are wowed by the sheer brilliance of Manapul and Buccellato. At first I found it a little too bright to be Gotham but the story are as dark, devious and surprisingly as detective as they should always be. This page of Bullock in shock at the sight of two half oval eyes is beautifully lit, and his fear is palatable. A wondrous read as always.

AVENGERS #41– Aaron Meyers

Seriously. This is why I love Marvel comics. Stuff like this.

07

About Me: Aaron Meyers loves reading comics, collecting comics and talking about comics. He’s grateful to share his love of comics with all of his friends on the Internet. From Twitter at @aaronmeyers, to his new podcast, Comics Therapy with Andrea Shockling, it’s all about the love of comics. He also loves his family, especially his wife, Chrissy Meyers. And while you were taking the time to read this, Aaron went and bought all the best issues from your store’s dollar bin. You lose, Aaron wins. #AllTheComics

Thanks as always for reading and sharing the most honored comics of the week with us. Same time next week, stay tuned!
