What a tumultuous week! Luckily, we had comics to get us through it and we have some amazing spoiler filled picks for you to check out. Let’s get to it!
BLACK HAMMER GIANT SIZED ANNUAL – James Kaplan
This was such a fun issue. I really love this book, it’s one of my favorites. This was more pure fun than the book normally is; it’s a great series but also tragic. Now I’m not normally a huge fan of annuals, but this one was pretty special. Writer Jeff Lemire found an engaging way to tell a number of different but related stories. He also brings in a terrific selection of artists such as Matt Kindt, Mike Allred and more. If you’re looking for a fun read, this is an excellent pickup. And this is absolutely a series you ought to be reading if you love superheroes and great storytelling.
About Me: James is a lawyer by day, and an avid reader of comics whenever he can. He loves his family, friends, and getting all of them into comics. He writes longer comics reviews at panelpatter.com and is on Twitter @sinisterjhk.
BLACK HAMMER GIANT SIZED ANNUAL – Tom Barnett
There are certain creators that I will buy just because their name is on it. Jeff Lemire and Matt Kindt are two of those people. And this panel combined Lemire’s writing, Kindt’s pencils and Sharlene Kindt’s colors. Comics don’t get any better then this.
About Me: I’m Tom. Slightly addicted to comics, Doctor Who, Star Wars and Star Trek. I also try to spend some time behind the lens of my camera. Love Bronze Age comics and the Black Hole movie from Disney. Follow me @tphoto10
BATMAN #15 – Kara Leavitt
This two part Batman and Catwoman story has been such a joy to read! They took down villains, discussed their shared past, and opened up emotionally to each other. It’s wonderful to see the two characters have such a deep understanding of each other and who they are underneath the masks. I can’t wait to see how their relationship progresses from here.
CURSE WORDS #1 – Aaron Meyers
Great hook, great art, great first issue.
About Me: Aaron Meyers loves reading comics, collecting comics and talking about comics. He’s grateful to share his love of comics with all of his friends on the Internet. From Twitter at @aaronmeyers, to his new podcast, Comics Therapy with Andrea Shockling, it’s all about the love of comics. He also loves his family, especially his wife, Chrissy Meyers. And while you were taking the time to read this, Aaron went and bought all the best issues from your store’s dollar bin. You lose, Aaron wins. #AllTheComics
