THE HONOR ROLL: November 19, 2014 Releases

There is some weeks where there is a clear favorite. I think you’ll see this is one of those weeks. Spoilers ahead! Let’s get to it!

THE MULTIVERSITY: PAX AMERICANA #1 – Will Pheesh

Given the infamous Moore-Morrison tensions, this Watchman homage was unexpected, but densely and cleverly written (Morrison), brilliantly drawn (Quitely), and subtly colored (Fairbairn) and lettered (Leigh). Maybe it’s simply my inner fanboy talking, but I really loved this issue.

About Me: Will Pheesh wants you to be happy and well, and not just because it’s his profession. He can be found on Twitter @WillPheesh.

THE MULTIVERSITY: PAX AMERICANA #1  – Pete Buser

Grant Morrison has done some interesting work with his Multiversity, so far.  But he has taken it to another level with Pax Americana.  This is Morrison’s Watchmen, both figuratively and literally.  It’s Morrison’s most interesting writing in a while and it uses the Charlton characters, that DC bought and Alan Moore turned into The Watchmen originally, and puts them in a post 9/11 world.  Morrison even plays with the panel layouts in the vein of Moore’s classic tale.  All that aside, Frank Quitely drawing Peacemaker jumping out of a high altitude balloon to assassinate the president from miles above is reason enough to read this book.

THE MULTIVERSITY: PAX AMERICANA #1  – Ken Godberson III

I was really tempted to just send an image of the cover of this issue to Meyers and say “Pretty Much That” and go have lunch because honestly, every single panel of every single page of this book is absolutely fantastic. Morrison, Quitely and Fairbairn show just what the medium can do (and this comes from someone who doesn’t worship at the Altar of Morrison and thinks he can do no wrong).

3

About Me: When he is not working at a library or on his Master’s Degree, Ken Godberson III is usually writing comics, prose and screenplays. He tends to be an expert on absolutely nothing except on why Impulse is the greatest superhero ever. He can be found on Twitter @kengodbersoniii or on Tumblr at http://kengodbersoniii.tumblr.com/

THE MULTIVERSITY: PAX AMERICANA #1  – Scott Keys

What can be said about The Multiversity: Pax Americana besides it was simply amazing! Morrison & Quitely work so well together & they pull off a faithful homage to Watchmen. Superb! Time to go read it again!

About Me: Scott Keys is a father, Butler University grad, pharmacist, and full-time comic nerd. DAREDEVIL #10 – Tom Barnett

I love that Chris Samnee dropped the reader into a tunnel looking out at Daredevil. DD is trying to claw his way out of a dark tunnel of depression after the five purple kids sent him there last issue. After several panels of darkness, the readers first glimpse of “reality” comes at the end of the tunnel.

About Me: I’m Tom. Slightly addicted to comics, Doctor Who, Star Wars and Star Trek. I also try to spend some time behind the lens of my camera. Love Bronze Age comics and the Black Hole movie from Disney. Follow me @tphoto10

JUSTICE LEAGUE #36 – Miles Espinoza

Jason Fabok draws the hell out of the Justice League! I really need a shirt with the panel below. DC should release shirts with art from Jason Fabok. The book was incredible from start to finish!

About Me: Miles Espinoza is a normal civilian by day, Vigilante by night. He can be found on twitter @XxKnightFlamexX

UNIVERSE #1 – Aaron Meyers

Panel Syndicate added their second comic this week. Funny, fresh, worth it! Don’t miss out.

About Me: Aaron Meyers loves reading comics, collecting comics and talking about comics. He’s grateful to share his love of comics with all of his friends on the Internet. From Twitter at @aaronmeyers, to his new podcast, Comics Therapy with Andrea Shockling, it’s all about the love of comics. He also loves his family, especially his wife, Chrissy Meyers. And while you were taking the time to read this, Aaron went and bought all the best issues from your store’s dollar bin. You lose, Aaron wins. #AllTheComics
