Pretty good time to be a comics fan, eh? With The Honor Roll, we showcase the best comics from any given week, but you must beware: there are spoilers aplenty. Without further ado, let’s look back at the awesome issues that cometh from September 26, 2018:
BATGIRL #27 – Kat!
Mairghread Scott, Paul Pelletier, Norm Rapmund, Jordie Bellaire – DC Comics
I’ve been really enjoying Mairghread Scott voice for this series, especially with how she deals with Barbara’s disability. This is a perfect snippet of that.
About Me: I’m Kat! A YouTuber on Comic Uno and Comic Frontline, a podcaster on the Legends of Tomorrow Podcast, Bylines: Newsarama, Fandom, IGN. Writer/creator for comic book series Like Father, Like Daughter and They Call Her…The Dancer. Follow me on @ComicUno.
ACTION COMICS #1003 – Martin Gray
Brian Michael Bendis, Yanick Paquette, Nathan Fairbairn – DC Comics
There’s a piece of green Kryptonite in the wild and Clark Kent has been feeling the heat. Happily, he’s got a friend in Batman, ready to steal the menacing metal. New writer Brian Bendis is settling in nicely on Action Comics, and with collaborators of the calibre of illustrator Yanick Paquette and colorist Nathan Fairbairn, he’s laughing. I’m never happier than when Superman and Batman are best chums, and Bendis just gets it. Worlds Finest indeed!
About Me: I’m a veteran (old!) comics fan who by day works as a non-mild-mannered (thoroughly obnoxious) journalist and by night blogs about comics at Too Dangerous For a Girl. Feel free to follow my witterings at @DangerousToo
BEASTS OF BURDEN: WISE DOGS AND ELDRITCH MEN #2 – Tom Barnett
Evan Dorkin, Benjamin Dewey – Dark Horse Comics
From Beasts of Burden, nightmare fuel!
About Me: I’m Tom. Slightly addicted to comics, Doctor Who, Star Wars and Star Trek. I also try to spend some time behind the lens of my camera. Love Bronze Age comics and the Black Hole movie from Disney. Follow me @tphoto10
SCOOBY-DOO TEAM-UP #42 – Doug Zawisza
Sholly Fish, Dario Brizuela, Franco Reisco, Saida Temofonte – DC Comics
Because gorillas. (And Detective Chimp, too!)
About Me: I’m Doug. Father of three, husband of one, fan of all things good. I’m a regular contributor here on Comicosity and I dig a good roll call. Twitter: @DZawisza
BEASTS OF BURDEN: WISE DOGS AND ELDRITCH MEN #2 – Pete Buser
Evan Dorkin, Benjamin Dewey – Dark Horse Comics
It is always a happy day when there’s a new Beasts of Burden book on the stands. Evan Dorkin is writing a great macabre mystery and he’s now joined by the estimable Benjamin Dewey on art. It’s so exciting to see his work on this book, after I first found out about him on The Autumnlands.
I chose this touching panel of Dymphna as a tribute to my friend’s cat, Henry, who was recently killed by coyotes and to my girlfriend’s cat, Ted, who was put to sleep this weekend.
They’re probably hanging out with Bast right now.
About Me: Pete Buser is an enigma wrapped in a variant cover. Follow his mystery @petebuser
BATMAN 100 PAGE GIANT #3 – Scott Keys
Brian Michael Bendis, Nick Derington – DC Comics
Gotta check out Bendis’ first official Batman story in Batman 100-Page Giant #3! This DC & Walmart partnership has been amazing so far, and this 1st part of Batman Universe with Derington’s artistic talents taking on the Caped Crusader with Bendis’ writing…SUPERB!
About Me: Scott Keys is a father, Butler University grad, pharmacist, and full-time comic nerd. You can follow his adventures around the spinner-rack and his Incoherent Comic Book Ramblings on: Twitter: @Like_car_Keys Tumblr:likecarkeys.tumblr.com
MONK! – Aaron Long
Youssef Daoudi – First Second
The biography of Thelonious Sphere Monk focuses on his unique friendship with Baroness Pannonica “Nica” de Koenigswarter is exactly what jazz would *look* like. Daoudi’s work is masterful throughout, and should not be missed.
About Me: I’m the EiC of this website. Check out some other articles, they’re pretty awesome.
