So, Cullen Bunn has done it again. Brought us yet another book with enough darkness and delicious, campy goodness to fill all the infinite hells found here in Hellbreak. As if the idea of one hell wasn’t terrifying enough, here we have countless versions awaiting all the waywardly cast souls of demon possessed bodies.

Got a demon problem? Call the Kerberos initiative and maybe they can sort it out for you. To be fair, you may not like their odds for a successful outcome, but what other choice do you have when faced with such a supernatural dilemma? While the body is possessed, the soul has to go somewhere. That soul is condemned to some layer or version of hell and that means somebody has to go get it. Good thing Kerberos has the Orpheus team whose specialty is soul retrieval.

We know very little about this mysterious group of extra-dimensional soldiers other than the fact that they are very good at what they do and have just the right amount of snarky banter between them to keep us interested. Despite our limited knowledge of the Orpheus sector of the organization, it’s pretty clear that we are about to really like them.

The artwork by Brian Churilla keeps things from going gothic to nightmarish with just the right amount of cartoon innocence. This does not mean to suggest however, that the imagery portrayed here is anything but sinister and goose-bump inducing horror. It’s terrifying to imagine just where they will take this in the future, the possibilities are truly endless.

This is not the first Bunn/Churilla project and this duo still has all their famous chemistry. Keep ’em coming guys.

The Verdict: 8.0/10
