BOOSTER GOLD/FLINTSTONES SPECIAL #1
Written by Mark Russell, Amanda Connor, Jimmy Palmiotti
Art by Rick Leonardi & Scott Hanna
Published by DC Comics – $4.99
Welcome to the 25th century, where the Earth is a polluted post-industrial nightmare, most animals are extinct, and reptilian aliens are invading cities across the planet! In their time of need, the world’s citizens turn to the time-traveling Booster Gold to save the day. To learn why these aliens are seeking revenge, Booster dives deep into the prehistoric past to see what happened the last time they hit the planet. In this bygone era, Fred Flintstone and Barney Rubble must help Booster learn the truth and return to his own time armed with the information that will bring down the invaders – if Booster can convince them to help him. No problem – we all know how persuasive Booster can be, right? Right?! And in the backup feature starring The Jetsons, in a new twist on an old twist about our future, The Jetsons live in a world of robotics and gadgetry. But how does dying change when grandma’s brain can be digitally imprinted onto a housecleaning robot?
Why It’s Hot: Mark Russell’s take on the Flinstone family, and the city of Bedrock has surprisingly been one of the best comics DC has been publishing over the past year or so. The underrated comic uses satire, and humor to comment on a lot modern issues. It’s this style that makes the pairing with Booster Gold so natural, and this issue the most anticipated of this week’s one shots. Then in the backup story you have Jimmy Palmiotti, Amanda Connor, and artist Pier Brito bringing The Jetsons into the fold with a story that will have everyone talking come Wednesday! Trust me, you’ll never look at The Jetsons the same way again!
DEADLY CLASS #27
Written by Rick Remender
Art by Wes Craig
Published by Image Comics – $3.99
NEW STORY ARC! “THIS IS NOT THE END,” Part One-Without Saya to protect them, the new students become targets of the Student Council’s plot. Help must be acquired from an unlikely source. RICK REMENDER & WES CRAIG’s brutally honest and violently funny slice of ’80s underground America returns with “THIS IS NOT THE END,” the biggest arc of the series that promises to shock long-time readers.
Why It’s Hot: So how about that last issue of Deadly Class? Yeah, it was a shocker, and automatically puts this week’s issue onto the Hot Five. What does it all mean? How did it happen? Where does everyone go from here? Remender, Craig, and Boyd are in the midst of a classic comic book run, and I can ever stress enough how great this comic book is.
INHUMANS PRIME #1
Written by Al Ewing
Art by Ryan Sook
Published by Marvel Comics – $4.99
RESURRXION BEGINS HERE!
In the wake of the awesome events of IVX – what will become of the Inhumans? In this oversized special issue – the trial of Maximus! The coming of Marvel Boy! And what is the dark secret of Black Bolt? A special bridging issue between the past of the Inhumans and their future – on Earth and in the stars!
Why It’s Hot: Al Ewing is one of the absolute best writers going today. His runs on Loki: Agent of Asgard, Mighty Avengers, and Contest of Champions were all top notch reads. It’s his current work on USAvengers (formerly New Avengers), and Ultimates however that have pushed him into the elite at Marvel. There’s no writer that is able to do pure superheroics quite as well as Ewing, and that makes the idea of him leading the Inhumans into Resurrxion one of the best things to happen to these characters. Add in the always amazing Ryan Sook, and you have the ingredients for an awesome start to the next chapter of Inhuman adventures.
