“Destiny is a corny word. But it captures what I can’t ignore…Maybe all of my mother’s fears will come true…or maybe this is my shot at a new life. Reborn.” A new member of the Teen Titans emerges as the Titans face the oncoming threat of the deadly King Shark in this latest issue of Teen Titans!

Percy’s work on this ragtag group of disparate kids is still as fantastic as it was when I last reviewed his run. Beast Boy is still the king of one-liners. Damian’s intelligence and his assumption that people are like him and Bruce and would actually read an entire playbook of maneuvers is adorable and hilarious. I also love the arc Jackson goes through and how he proves himself to his team.

I find the overall storyline of Rise of Aquaman Part 2 to really compliment the beginning of the arc and, from the reveal I kind of saw coming at the end of this issue, I’m extremely excited to see how emotions will be heightened and how relationships will be tested.

The art from Pham and Von Grawbadger is dynamic and active. There are a lot of fight sequences in this issue and every one of them keep my attention. I love the creativity of how Raven and Kid Flash double-team their enemies the most, Pham and Von Grawbadger are really able to make a unique concept work well on page.

Charalampidis’ coloring accentuates the action and the characters, aiding the reader in gravitating towards certain actions or allowing the reader to sense a shift in tone. He does a great job.

The lettering by Corey Breen is also pretty awesome. I love how each character has their own font whenever their names pop up on the pages. I like the uniqueness of the thought bubbles of Jackson’s thoughts. I like the drama Breen adds to the action SFX.

Oh man, if you haven’t been reading Teen Titans, you really should be. It takes the core of what made popular iterations of the series work, like the emphasis on character relationships and their relationships to their parents, and adds an injection of freshness and modernity. It’s fun, action packed, a bit dramatic, and one of my favorite comics out there right now. You really should be reading Teen Titans, guys.

The Verdict: 10/10
