Ten Tweets Thursday with @jtorrescomics

J. Torres (@jtorrescomics), writer of Batman: Legends of the Dark Knight & Teen Titans Go, has kicked off a new project: True Patriot, an anthology of Canadian superheroes by Canadian creators. The anthology is currently live as an Indiegogo campaign, be sure to check it out! Now let’s see how J. fared in the Ten Tweets hot seat….

#1 What is the first comic you remember reading?
Marvel Treasury #7 featuring the Avengers. It was tabloid size. Four or five stories in it. SO many heroes. I was five or six. Loved it!
#2 You can only pick two: all time favorite comic book characters?
I think I’m going to have to go with the World’s Finest: Batman and Superman.
#3 What is your favorite series arc, limited or mini-series of all time?
Batman: Year One
#4 How do you read your comics? Print, digital, trades?
These days I mostly read on my iPad, but I still hit the comic shop at least once a month for books I have to have in my comic library.
#5 What do you consider to be the most “obscure” title you read?
Hmm… maybe Marrowbones by Eric Orchard (a.k.a. @inkybat)? But more people should be reading it!
#6 You get to pick three: Favorite writers (current or of all time)?
In no particular order: Grant Morrison, Warren Ellis, Neil Gaiman.
#7 What is your favorite comic collector’s item?
The Titans Go-Bot 5! A toy from Bandai based on a concept from the Teen Titans Go comic I wrote and drawn by @toddnauck.
#8 As a reader do you tend to stick to a specific publisher, follow creative teams or follow characters?
It’s always about the creators. I follow writers, artists, and cartoonists. The right creators will compel me to pick up almost anything.
#9 You get to pick three (again): Favorite artists?
Well, lately, I can’t stop pinning art by Skottie Young, Mike Maihack, and Brianne Drouhard! See my Pinterest board Comic Book Cuties.
#10 What was the last comic you read before answering these questions?
Archie #220 from August 1972. Old school Archie read via new school technology for 99 cents. It’s a good time to be a geek.
#11 You are involved in the True Patriot project on Indiegogo: who is your character and what makes them a superhero?

Tim Levins and I bring back the Family Dynamic, a Canadian quartet of superheroes wielding power rings that give them elemental powers!
