THE HONOR ROLL: February 15, 2017 Releases

After another week of turmoil and intensity it’s a good thing we had comics to help keep us centered. We have some amazing picks from our staff for you to check out, full of spoilers. So, let’s get to it!

DEPT H #11 –  Tom Barnett

I probably talk too much about how great Dept H is, but come on, it is! Here we have a wonderfully pencilled and colored panel from issue 11. A foreboding image of what’s to come and ironic dialogue.

About Me: I’m Tom. Slightly addicted to comics, Doctor Who, Star Wars and Star Trek. I also try to spend some time behind the lens of my camera. Love Bronze Age comics and the Black Hole movie from Disney. Follow me @tphoto10

MONSTERS UNLEASHED #3 – Doug Zawisza

Monsters Unleashed is the type of wide-panel, fun event that brings a comic book universe together and gives readers interactions between characters like Sam Wilson and Fin Fang Foom. It’s wacky, it’s fun, and it’s comics. Cullen Bunn delivers the third issue of this event, and, despite the concept of giant monsters stomping through the pages, the event itself is quaintly self-contained and much more satisfying than most of Marvel’s latest event offerings. This issue is drawn by Leinil Francis Yu and this panel turns the tide of the tale.

About Me: I’m Doug. Father of three, husband of one, fan of all things good. I’m a regular contributor here on Comicosity, an adjunct staff member of the Waiting for Doom podcast, and author of the Hawkman Companion from TwoMorrows. Twitter: @DZawisza

U.S. AVENGERS #3 – Kara Leavitt

US Avengers is absolutely fantastic so far! I particularly love the inclusion of Danielle Cage’s Captain America. There’s something amazing about seeing possible future versions of characters and I hope to see a lot more of her. She’s a lot of fun, and I loved seeing the team square off against her arch-nemesis.

About Me: Kara is a pre-vet sophomore at Tufts University. She loves reading comics in her spare time and frequenting her local movie theater. Follow her @karalea16

ETHER #4 – James Kaplan

This was a Matt Kindt week for me as I was choosing between Ether and the wonderful Dept. H. I wanted to highlight the great work that’s being done in Ether. Writer Matt Kindt is telling an engaging, surprisingly emotional tale of fantasy and science. The book is brought to life by the terrifically imaginative and dynamic art of David Rubin. His work really is a marvel, it’s funny and detailed and poignant and weird, all at once. This issue in particular took a surprisingly emotional and dark turn while still telling a dramatic and engaging fantasy story. I’m really curious to see where this book goes.

About Me: James is a lawyer by day, and an avid reader of comics whenever he can.  He loves his family, friends, and getting all of them into comics. He writes longer comics reviews at panelpatter.com and is on Twitter @sinisterjhk.

SUPER SONS #1 – Scott Keys

Absolutely LOVED Super Sons #1! The dynamic between Damian and Jon is great, art and writing were perfect this this book, and I can’t wait for issue 2!

Scott Keys is a father, Butler University grad, pharmacist, and full-time comic nerd. You can follow his adventures around the spinner-rack and his Incoherent Comic Book Ramblings on: Twitter: @Like_car_Keys Tumblr:likecarkeys.tumblr.comInstagram: Like_car_Keys Facebook: Scott Keys (Likecarkeys) Google+: Scott Keys Pinterest: LikecarKeys

THE WILD STORM #1 – Jill Pennington

I could sense a bit of old woven in with lots of bits of new after grabbing the first issue of The Wild Storm by Warren Ellis without having previous experience with its predecessor, the WildStorm universe. Anticipating that this issue would lay down the threads for the rest of series to follow, it didn’t disappoint. Each page was a glimpse into what’s happening now and left me wondering what is connecting with what or whom next. I was left with many questions that I look forward to seeing answered.

About Me: I’m Jill; A first time contributor. I sell comics and books by day at Pieces & Pages and fill the rest of my time making my fiancé play boards games with me, reading and hugging my cats. If you’re nearby Livonia, MI stop into the store for a high-five or reach out online @PiecesAndPages.

THE WILD STORM #1 – Aaron Long

Warren F***ing Ellis. Jon F***ing Davis-Hunt. THE WILD F***ING STORM. I have no history with this universe but I am stoked as all hell about this. BRING IT.

About Me: Aaron is the Editor-in-Chief of comicosity.com, the site you are currently reading….and should visit more often.

BATWOMAN: REBIRTH #1 – #RoryPupOfDOOM

Woof.

About Me: I’m a good pupper.

SAVAGE #4 – Aaron Meyers

Great Mini-Series. I hope we get more of this.
