THE HONOR ROLL: May 10, 2017 Releases

Wow. Simply wow. The world may be in chaos, but comics have never been better. We have great spoiler-filled picks for you to check out, so let’s get to it!

TITANS #11 – Doug Zawisza

Wally West – the heart of DC’s Rebirth – crosses paths with Deathstroke, one of the most consistently gripping Rebirth reads. Brett Booth’s art is hitting the sweet spot for this Titans series, and he brings his all to this issue. Add in a sideways wink and nod to one of the most critically-acclaimed comic book tales, stitch in some more heroes, and convince Dan Abnett to write it all with Benjamin Percy and Christopher Priest, and you’ve got a Deathstroke-target-level can’t miss read. The first chapter of “The Lazarus Contract” is in Titans #11 this week with four more parts hitting shelves and devices every New Comic Book Day for the next month.

About Me: I’m Doug. Father of three, husband of one, fan of all things good. I’m a regular contributor here on Comicosity, an adjunct staff member of the Waiting for Doom podcast, and author of the Hawkman Companion from TwoMorrows. Twitter: @DZawisza

SECRET WARRIORS #1 – Tom Barnett

So it wasn’t my favorite comic of the week, but this panel sold Secret Warriors to me. Ms. Marvel fighting alongside Devil Dinosaur! Bad ass!

About Me: I’m Tom. Slightly addicted to comics, Doctor Who, Star Wars and Star Trek. I also try to spend some time behind the lens of my camera. Love Bronze Age comics and the Black Hole movie from Disney. Follow me @tphoto10

Liz Allen introduces the Venom into the Renew Your Vows universe! I’m really excited to see MJ connect with the Venom because up to this point she’s been fearful of the symbiote.

About Me: I’m Kat! A YouTuber on Comic Uno and Comic Frontline, a podcaster on the Legends of Tomorrow Podcast, comic book editor on The Marvel Report, comic book critic on Newsarama, and writer/creator for comic book series Like Father, Like Daughter. Follow me on @ComicUno.

SILVER SURFER #11 – James Kaplan

You want to talk about great comics? Silver surfer is a great comic. It’s got tons of heart and emotion and romance and action and humor. All of this is brought to life by the Allreds, who continue to do some of the most fun, dynamic, wonderfully pop-art work in this book. Every page of the comic is filled with visual delights. It’s really one of my favorite books, you should be picking up as well.

About Me: James is a lawyer by day, and an avid reader of comics whenever he can.  He loves his family, friends, and getting all of them into comics. He writes longer comics reviews at and is on Twitter @sinisterjhk.

This story starts by quickly giving the reader a low down on how the world works – perfect for anyone who hasn’t picked up the original trilogy. After we learn about how the society is run, we are introduced to the people who want to disrupt that balance and the fun starts. It’s Anarchy at its finest when a Gold (highest level) is taken and tortured for information by a group of Other Colors (lower levels). If you love today’s good ‘ol Science Fiction Dystopian then you should be picking this up.

About Me: I’m Jill. I sell comics and books by day at Pieces & Pages and fill the rest of my time making my fiancé play boards games with me, reading and hugging my cats. If you’re nearby Livonia, MI stop into the store for a high-five or reach out online @PiecesAndPages.

ACTION COMICS #979 – Scott Keys

Action Comics #979 was a nice set-up issue for the Superman Revenge Squad getting together, and it was awesome watching Henshaw turn back into the Cyborg Superman again! This should be a fun ride! (Hope we get to see Kon-El return soon, too)

Scott Keys is a father, Butler University grad, pharmacist, and full-time comic nerd. RENATO JONES SEASON 2 #1 – Aaron Meyers

Great series. Glad to have it back.

About Me: Aaron Meyers loves reading comics, collecting comics and talking about comics. He’s grateful to share his love of comics with all of his friends on the Internet. From Twitter at @aaronmeyers, to his new podcast, Comics Therapy with Andrea Shockling, it’s all about the love of comics. He also loves his family, especially his wife, Chrissy Meyers. And while you were taking the time to read this, Aaron went and bought all the best issues from your store’s dollar bin. You lose, Aaron wins. #AllTheComics

Thanks as always for reading and sharing the most honored comics of the week with us. Same time next week!
